Extended Bio
Paul Kobe is an artist of a unique variety, a true supporter of collaborative art movements, focusing his background in percussion, composition, and performance art into a wide variety of artistic products. He currently has taken a break from performing in groups and is focusing on writing, recording, and performing solo works for percussion.
As a performing musician Paul has performed around the United States, and also in France, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia with the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony. This includes a premier performance of “The Sails of Time” by David Gillingham at the Sydney Opera House. He currently plays in and around Denver, Colorado and the Southwest.
As an artist Paul incorporates his musical studies with other influences, showing a focus on performance art and Gesamtkunstwerk (a total work of art using many mediums). In 2010 he won a proposal competition at the Adams State College Art Department, obtaining a gallery for two weeks to put on a percussive performance installation. In 2011 he composed and performed a completely original musical score to the Adams State College Theater performance of Romeo and Juliet, using various percussion instruments, some of his own construction, and performing on stage throughout the entire play.
As a composer Paul has worked with many instruments and groups, often building his own ensembles for each piece. He bases much of his work on timbral relationships, motivic elements, ostinatos, and interpretations of a variety of things from artwork and literature to simple ideas and emotions. In 2011 Paul put on a concert of ten original compositions featuring collaborations with six local artists where songs were composed in response to specific pieces of art, and performed by 21 musicians with a wide array of instrumentation. Other works have been performed at Adams State College and with his bands Us From The SuperFuture and others around Colorado.
Currently Paul is working on a series of solo pieces for mallet percussion and multi-percussion setups. He plans to publish both recordings and notation in the near future.

Short Artist Statement
Art has always been a huge part of my life, in all aspects of the word. When I create art it is rarely limited to one field. I strive to include music, theater, and visual art in my projects whenever possible, thus I would have to categorize my art as performance art. The art is impermanent. The performance of it is the whole point of the piece, and even repeated viewings will not hold the same effects on the audience. And the effect on the audience is what makes the piece art.
